Accommodation options available for students range from a homestay to shared flats. Study abroad students who choose to live in a homestay can experience living with a local family for a portion of their semester. As students gets to live in a typical local family, the experience of local culture sums up the whole package of cultural learning and experience. Since, Omanis are naturally gentle and hospitable, students will always feel at home.
Students who prefer to live in one and two bedroom furnished apartments will usually be provided with kitchen appliances, cookware and utensils, linen, air conditioning, and wifi in their flat. Most flats are strategically located near shops, restaurants, and gyms. A one bedroom apartment starts at 250 OMR ($650) while a three bedroom apartment starts at 600 OMR ($1,140). It is quite easy to score a one to three bedroom apartment in the city or outside the city center; flats located outside the center are cheaper.
Students who want to study abroad in Oman must apply for a student visa in advance. The visa processing may take up to 10 days. The Omani government is quite good about permitting international students to study abroad in Oman and receive student visas. For students planning to stay for less than two months, applications can be submitted at the airport for a 30 day renewable visitor visa. Oman visa procedures differ for each nationality, but for a student visa most applicants must submit the following:
- A confirmed place in an accredited institution
- Medical Certificate
- Letter from a sponsor or institution explaining the reason for your stay
- Visa fees

Weather. The only problem tourists faced in Oman is a severe heat. While the entire Persian Gulf receives the hottest temperature for 5 months a year, Omani houses are typically built with air conditioning units to keep the house cool.
