Oman makes announcements on work permit violation fines
Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Labour announced today that employers and expatriate workers are exempted from all fees and fines arising from work permits for non-Omani employees, provided that they leave the Sultanate for good, starting from November 15 until December 31 this year.
The announcement from the Labour Ministry said that this is in line with the decision of the Supreme Committee to facilitate expatriate workers who wish to return to their country, due to the current pandemic situation. Employees as well as employers are exempt from any fines that may have arisen due to the work permit related issues. This decision comes into effect from November 15 and is valid till December 31.
Expatriates whose passports have expired are advised to visit their embassies to renew the same, before going to the Labour Ministry’s office at the Airport to complete the departure procedures. Apart from necessary travel documents including tickets, mandatory PCR tests as advised, the destination country’s rules and requirement should be adhered to while completing the procedures.
Employers have been advised to update their data and arrange to settle any claims through competent authorities within a week of being intimated officially about the departure of the expatriate workers by uploading the same on the Ministry’s website.
