Court issues Oman’s first community service sentence
Defendants in a case were convicted and sentenced to sweeping and cleaning roads in Salalah, in Oman's first community service sentencing.
The Court of First Instance in Salalah sentenced a number of defendants of various crimes sanctions such as sweeping and cleaning the roads for four hours a day and for a month, in addition to their original sentence.
Article 57 of the new Omani Penal Code provides supplementary penalties, including the commissioning of a social service.
In addition, the convict can be jailed for one month if the defendant does not comply with the public service sentence.
