Red tide in Barka likely to affect water supply
The committee at PAEW said it is closely monitoring the situation for the next 48 hours.
Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Mahrouqi, chairman of Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) chaired an emergency meeting to discuss the phenomenon of red tide in Barka and its impact on water production at desalination plants.
The committee reviewed a detailed presentation by the concerned team at the control center on the current situation due to the red tide, its impact on water production and the possible consequences. The committee also reviewed the overall water supply situation and the measures taken, which include linking of Sohar and Al Ghubhra stations to supply water to the governorates that depend on the desalination plant in Barka.
Water from the wells will be also used to overcome shortages as per the Emergency Procedures Manual. The committee said it is closely monitoring the situation for the next 48 hours and will take additional action if necessary, It has called on all consumers in Muscat to continue to rationalize water consumption and only depend on official sources for updates.
