Three injured after cannon goes off in Oman

Three people were injured after a cannon was fired in the wilayat of Dama W'Al Tayeen in the Sharqiyah region of Oman, according to a statement from the Royal Oman Police.

The three injured, who have not been named, were caught in the blast of an accidental discharge of gunpowder, caused when the person operating the cannon fired it incorrectly.

The three suffered light wounds, and were rushed to the nearest hospital, while the ROP has begun legal proceedings against the gunner in question.

The ROP also denied rumours about the cannon discharge injuring a large number of people on its official Twitter account.

"A volatile tinderbox from an old cannon has injured three people, who because of this, were taken to hospital for treatment," said the police, in tweets put up online, adding, "Legal action has been taken against the perpetrator, and there is no truth in the rumours going around regarding a large number of casualties."
