Random medical tests for workers in utilities sector
Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, has issued on Sunday a ministerial decree amending certain provisions of the regulation of occupational safety and health measures in establishments subject to the Labour Law.
Article (1) of the resolution, adds a new article (24) to the regulation of occupational safety and health measures in the establishments as per the labour Law.
“The employers of establishments operating in the oil and gas sector, the ports and airports, the electricity and water sector, should undertake periodic and random medical examinations of workers to ensure that they do not use any narcotic substances, psychotropic substances or alcoholic beverages. The employer must take measures to ensure that the work sites are free of such materials ”
The decision is based on the Labor Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 35/2003 and the Regulations on Occupational Safety and Health Regulations in establishments subject to the Labor Law promulgated by Ministerial Decision No. 286/2008.
