Plea seeks to rescue 5 Indian fishermen missing in Oman
Madurai: The Madras high court has issued a notice to the central and state governments on a public interest litigation (PIL) which sought to rescue five Indian fishermen who went missing after they ventured into the sea for fishing in Oman.
G Thirumurugan, chief coordinator of Tamil Nadu Meenavar Urimai Padukappu Eyakkam at Ramanathapuram district, stated that four fishermen K Karmegam, T Ramanathan, K Kasinathan, R Kasillingam from Ramanathapuram and another from Kanyakumari district are working in Oman.
On September 16, they went for fishing in the deep sea and did not return to the shore even after 10 days of venturing into the sea. He stated that since Cyclone Hikaa hit the Arabian sea coast of Oman on September 25, the government and fellow fishermen carried out search and rescue operations. Thirumurgan further stated that he has submitted a representation to the authorities concerned.
