Opening date of new Indian school in Oman announced
A new Indian school is set to welcome its first batch of students on April 1, 2018, the Board of Directors of Indian Schools announced on Wednesday.
The board has obtained permission to start a new school at Saham, fulfilling the long cherished educational requirement of the Indian diaspora of the place.
This will be the 20th Indian School in Oman.
The Board has been working towards getting permission from the Ministry of Education and other Departments for a new school at Saham.
"The children of this region have been going to either Sohar or Muladha for their education, and those who could not travel that far were confined to either home tuitions or attending private schools. The new Indian School at Saham will become operational from April this year," Wilson V. George, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said
He also thanked the Government of Oman and the Oman Ministry of Education for the support extended to the Indian Community.
"Opening of this new school is also the result of hard work by a team of community members who supported the Board to set up the infrastructure, equipment and other facilities for the school. I thank the Indian community in Saham and request their continued support for smooth operation of the school which will be inaugurated in a few weeks."
C.M. Najeeb, Vice Chairman of the Board and the Head of Saham School Project said: "We have been working for about an year towards setting up this new school and I am glad that it has become a reality. I congratulate the community at Saham."
Indian School Saham will initially have classes from Kindergarten to Class V. Subsequent classes will be added to the School, subject to permission from the government and demand for admissions.
The school building is fully ready near Hafeet, and the office will be functional from the second week of March, which is also when admissions will begin. Parents can complete all procedures pertaining to admission at the school itself.
The Principal and staff for the new school have already been appointed; required furniture and other infrastructure are in place; classrooms are equipped with latest educational amenities.
Indian Schools in Oman have the largest number of expatriate students and presently they have nearly 46,000 students in nineteen schools.
Children of other nationalities also take admission in Indian Schools if they don't have a school of their own in a particular locality.
Indian diaspora in Muscat will soon see the opening of yet another school within a year. The upcoming school at Bausher Al Awabi is going to be a major achievement for the Board of Directors, as the school can ease the burden of afternoon shifts from the schools in the capital area.
