Oman, Syria ink deal to preserve Syrian monuments, antiquities

MUSCAT, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Oman and Syria on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding on preserving Syrian monuments and antiquities in the Sultanate.

The Omani Ministry of Heritage and Culture said in a statement that the agreement was signed by Omani Director General of the National Museum Jamal al-Musawi, and Syrian Director General of Antiquities and Museums at the Syrian Ministry of Culture Mahmoud Hammoud.

The deal provides for the temporary lending of Syrian monuments and antiquities to the Oman National Museum for the purpose of preservation, and the establishment of a temporary exhibition at the museum, it said.

It was signed following a meeting between Haitham Al Said, Omani minister of heritage and culture and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum, and visiting Syrian Minister of Culture Mohammed Al-Ahmad.

"We look forward to more constructive cooperation in all aspects related to the cultural aspect," Al Said said.
