Oman, Canada explore means to enhance educational cooperation
Dr. Rawya bint Saud Al Busaidiya, Minister of Higher Education, received in her office yesterday the Special Envoy of the Canadian Prime Minister for the UN Security Council Mission and his accompanying delegation currently visiting the Sultanate.
The Minister of Higher Education welcomed the visiting delegation and stressed the importance of this visit in opening up new fields to enhance the good relations between the Sultanate and Canada in the higher education sector.
The Minister of Higher Education briefed the visiting delegation on higher education in the Sultanate and the importance of external scholarship programmes to provide the country with qualified Omani cadres, especially in specialisations that cope with the future development projects of the country.
For his part, the Special Envoy of the Canadian Prime Minister gave a presentation on Canada’s higher education and its reputation in having some of the best universities in the world in its educational systems and the diversity of its academic programs, in addition to its stability, security and good relations with the world.
At the end of the meeting, the Canadian envoy invited the Minister of Higher Education to visit Canadian universities and attend an international conference on higher education to be held in November.
It is noteworthy that 137 Omani students studying in Canadian universities in various disciplines in the undergraduate, master and doctoral programmes, in addition to the academic fellowships.
