Indian woman dies aboard Saudi flight after medical emergency

An Indian national died on a Hyderabad bound Saudi Arabian Airlines flight after a medical emergency.

The Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Medina to Hyderabad was diverted to Muscat, after the emergency arose.

“But despite the paramedics’ efforts she was found to be dead on arrival,” a spokesperson for the Indian Embassy in Muscat said.

The 65-year-old woman was returning to Hyderabad after performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia.

The passenger, Shareefa Begum, who was travelling with her family members, had boarded the Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Medina on March 1 along with her two grandchildren.

“She went to Medina to perform Umrah and was returning to Hyderabad when the incident happened,” a member of Deccan Wing of Indian Social Club said.

The flight was diverted to Muscat after she fell ill on board, according to an Indian Embassy official in Muscat.

“In the case of unfortunate death of Shareefa Begum, the Embassy has issued the No Objection Certificate and is following up with the

concerned authorities for early repatriation of mortal remains,” the Indian Embassy in Muscat said.
