Dawn of Renaissance brought growth and glory for Oman
Since the dawn of the Renaissance, Oman has been transformed into a beacon of modernity and prosperity that invests in its people for the overall benefit of society.
On the occasion of Renaissance Day, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) highlighted some of Oman’s accomplishments over the last 49 years.
Omanis’ living standards, education levels and mobility have significantly improved over the past four decades. With regards to education, the number of students who attend government schools grew by 67,000 per cent between the school year 1970/1971 and the school year 2018/2019.
The accelerated economic development in the country has meant that living standards and wages for Omanis have also improved. According to the NCSI data, there was a 150 per cent growth in the average income of Omani families between
2000-2018.
According to the NSCI, the total length of roads in Oman grew by 377,000 per cent between 1970 and 2017.
Life expectancy
People have also become healthier, with the data revealing that people living in Oman have a significantly longer life expectancy than they used to, “The average life expectancy of people grew from 49 years to 78 years, a growth of 59 per cent between 1970-2017,” the statement by the centre said.
Aside from the economic and social progression, the Sultanate has also managed to maintain a safe environment within its borders since the Renaissance, irrespective of the incidents that occurred in the region.
“According to the Global Competitiveness Report of 2018, Oman ranked first in the lack of terror incidents index,” NCSI said.
NCSI focused on indices such as electricity production, the length of constructed roads, the number of students registered each year, the average growth of each household’s income, and the growth of non-oil exports, many of which have grown by thousands of percentage points by the end of 2018.
According to NCSI, non-oil exports from Oman during the period between 1970-2018 grew by 932,000 per cent.
Oman has also built a number of new roads that span the length of the country, which allow not only for more intercity movement and commuting, but also play an important role in the tourism sector, facilitating the movement of tourists with ease.

According to the NSCI, the total length of roads in Oman grew by 377,000 per cent between 1970 and 2017.
With more and more projects being undertaken each year, the government has been able to expand its power production to provide the necessary energy for development projects.
Finally, NCSI took a look at electricity production, revealing that “total electricity production in Oman grew by 1,400 per cent between 1985 and 2018.”
