Construction sector employs 5,025 Omanis in 3 months
The construction, wholesale, retail and manufacturing sectors have emerged as prime movers for the government plans to recruit 25,000 jobs for Omanis in the private sector, revealed the latest statistics.
Under the government plan, 14,883 Omanis have been recruited in the private sector, including 10,092 males, in the private sector during the period (December 3- March 5).
The Ministry of Manpower said the construction sector employed 5,025 Omanis, including 3,974 males, followed by the wholesale and retail trade sector (2,103) and the manufacturing sector (2,043).
The number of males recruited during this period (December 3- March 5) reached 10,092, (68 per cent of the total appointments) against 4,791females.
In terms of educational qualifications, there were 7,450 General Education Diploma (GED) holders, including 4,919 males, against 2,514 university diploma holders.
Last week, 85 companies from various governorates of the Sultanate invited thousands of job seekers for interviews and tests as part of the recruitment drive.
Overall, construction, mining, quarrying, wholesale and retail and repair of motor vehicles accounted for 50.7 per cent of Omanis Omanis working in the private sector and insured under the Public Authority for Social Insurance until the end of 2017.
