Challenge Tour stars hail Al Mouj golf course

Golfers at the ongoing NBO Golf Classic Grand Final at Al Mouj are excited to be in Oman, saying that the Al Mouj golf course is one of the best in the world that they play on.

Al Mouj Golf has hosted a Challenge Tour tournament for the last five years and this is the third consecutive year that the Greg Norman-designed course has been the setting for the European Challenge Tour season’s finale.

NBO Golf Classic Grand Final leader Estanislao Goya feels this is the top course they play on all season on the Road to Oman. “Al Mouj Golf is the best course we play on the Challenge Tour,” said the Argentine. “It’s a good test and you have to play well, but if you play well it rewards you. It’s a great challenge for the week and is an excellent location for our Grand Final.”

Al Mouj Golf is ranked the second-best golf course in the Middle East by Golf Digest and there’s no surprise why the Challenge Tour stars enjoy ending their season – and perhaps celebrating a promotion to the European Tour – here in Muscat.

Aaron Rai has sealed his promotion to the European Tour after a remarkable run of form that saw him win three times in nine starts. Al Mouj Golf doesn’t bring back the best memories as he narrowly missed out on finishing in the top 15 by two spots here last season. However, that’s nothing to do with the sublime course which holds a place deep in his heart.

“I fell in love with the Al Mouj Golf course when I came here for the first time last year,” said Rai. “It’s an excellent course off the tee that is well-bunkered.

“It is quite strategic as well so you can choose to play it in a number of different ways off the tee, depending if you want to be conservative or aggressive. I think it’s a perfect venue for the Challenge Tour Grand Final.”

Julien Guerrier, who is second on The Road to Oman, is another player that always looks forward to finishing the season here in Muscat at Al Mouj Golf.

“Al Mouj Golf is a great course that I always enjoy playing on,” said the Frenchman. “The greens are good, the condition of the course is excellent and you never expect any rain so that’s always a good thing. It’s the perfect place to host the Challenge Tour Grand Final and I’m sure every player enjoys the course and hospitality.”
