Campaign to remove fishing nets implemented in Oman

The Environment Authority, in cooperation with the Blue water divers team, has implemented a campaign to remove fishing nets and ropes stuck in coral reefs in the Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve.

A statement issued online by the Environment Authority said: "Within the framework of joint cooperation between the Environment Authority and the volunteer diving teams, the Blue water divers team removed fishing nets and ropes stuck in the coral reefs near Kasma Island in the Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve. This work comes as a continuation of the campaign to clean up the coral reef environment that is being carried out by the authority."

"The Environment Authority draws the attention of fishermen to the necessity of fishing with nets away from the islands in order to avoid the encroachment of fishing nets towards coral reef areas by the marine currents," the statement added.
