Oman Economy to Get a Boost with the New Home Address System
In the words of certain experts, the Oman’s E-commerce would flourish once the new home address system would give an identity for every house by 2020.
Presently, there are low web purchases and home deliveries in the country owing to the absence of the unified postal address system. As per certain analysts, there is less than 1 per cent of web sales out of all purchases in the Sultanate.
The global analysts Frost & Sullivan’s report in 2015 has estimated Oman’s total market share among the GCC countries would be around 12 per cent viz. around $5 billion. Once the new postal system would come into effect, it would take the online spending to sky high limits according to the experts. The upcoming address system would be having the street name, city name, postal code, wilayat, building number and governorate which would remove the hassle of long phone calls and wandering delivery boys to find the address.
By the time of the 2020 census, the Muscat Municipality members have revealed a four stage plan to bring in the home address system on time. There are tremendous growth opportunities in the Oman e-commerce market. The global e-commerce market is expected to touch USD 2 trillion by 2020 and has a total sales share of 7.8 per cent, Oman’s share is presently only 1 per cent of the same.
Since the Government of Oman has recognised the importance of e-commerce they have formed an e-commerce portal dedicated and managed by the Information technology Authority.
