Al Rahbi visits a stall at the Omani Honey Market.

35 beekeepers display products at honey expo

The eighth Omani Honey Market opened under the patronage of Talal Bin Suleiman Al Rahbi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning (SCP), on Wednesday.

About 35 honey beekeepers from various governorates are taking part in the four-day market organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The exhibition also includes a special section for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to introduce efforts in the field of development, breeding and propagation of honey bees, as well as to display supplies for beekeeping.

Omani honey is characterised by unique taste, aroma and colour.

The market being organised in Muscat Grand Mall aims at introducing the Omani honey and related products to provide an opportunity for interaction among the honey producers and the consumers.

The ministry also seeks through this market to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specialised in the production of honey, bee breeding and sale of bee breeding accessories, finding more marketing outlets and promotion of Omani honey known for its high quality and nutritional value.

The ministry annually distributes local honey bee cells to breeders to increase the production of honey and bee products.

The previous editions of Omani honey markets witnessed a great turnout by citizens, residents and visitors.

The amount of honey sold in the seventh Omani honey market last year reached about 4 tonnes of honey of various kinds, with a market value of about 99,000 rials.
