Facebook may get this WhatsApp’s ’favourite’ feature to Instagram
Over the last couple of years, Instagram has integrated a lot of features from its fellow competitors. Face filters, 24-hour ephemeral stories, hashtags, bookmarks are just a few examples. However, the list doesn't there as another features is expected to come up on the photo-sharing app.
It seems like the next thing that Instagram is going to roll out is a video calling feature. According to a report by WABetaInfo, a renowned Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp's beta builds suggests that Instagram team is working to roll out the feature to video call other users, internally. This means that it hasn't been spotted in any of the Beta versions and remains in the pilot testing phase. According to the report, this feature will be accessible through personal chat when both parties are active. As for the timeline, as per the report, this feature will be enabled in coming months, and will be available both on iOS and Android platforms.
Instagram on its part has responded to this report and told TechCrunch, "We don't comment on rumours and speculation." So, we'll have to wait and see if and when this video calling feature lands on Instagram.
The Facebook-owned photo-sharing app has been launching a new feature-launching spree in the last one month or so. Most recently, the app introduced GIF-support for Instagram Stories. Instagram now lets users search in the Giphy database (just like WhatsApp, another Facebook-owned platform) for GIFs. Just like Stickers, these GIFs can be resized and placed anywhere on an Instagram Story.
Also, Instagram now shows when the user is online on the app, to his/her followers. However, this feature can be disabled in the app. For this, one needs to go to the Settings of their Instagram app, select Show activity status and toggle the option off.
