Haunting Pictures of celebrations in the US Embassy as Gaza is massacred less than 100 km away

Several dozens of Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces on Monday as the United States organised the opening ceremony of its new embassy in Jerusalem. The decision was a was part of President Donald Trump's campaign vows and was hailed as highly controvertial.

The embassy was relocated from Tel Aviv. However, the celebrations in Jerusalem show the stark difference when pitted against the deaths in Gaza.

Jerusalem lies at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian tension. The Palestinians see East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state and therefore, see the US's support of Israel as the latter's control over the whole of the city - which "Israel regards as its indivisible capital", reports BBC.

What's more tragic is the fact that the shootings took place some 96 km from the embassy's new location.

Here are the photos from both the events.

Given the context of these images, imagine how much we, as humans, can accomplish if we stayed away from anger and death. But sadly, anger and death are the realities of the world we live in. AFP
