Yemeni ballistic missile targets Saudi base
Katyusha rockets were fired towards groups of Saudi soldiers and their militias in the Najran and Jizan regions, according to a military official who spoke to the Yemen Press Agency.
The attack targeted two camps in the al-Aqabah mountains and al-Atar in Jizan and other camps in the al-Buqa desert.
Military air defences reportedly downed the ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels.
Saudi Arabia’s air defence announced on Saturday it had intercepted another ballistic missile.
A spokesman for the Arab coalition, Colonel Turki Al Malki, declared the interception took place at 6.14pm Riyadh time (3.14pm GMT).
He added: "The Saudi Royal Air Defence Forces spotted another missile that landed in an uninhabited desert.
“Thankfully there were no reports of any damage until the time this statement was issued.”
Colonel Malki blamed “Houthi terrorist groups” for the incident.
He said: “This hostile action by the Houthi terrorist group supported by Iran proves the Iranian regime's sustained involvement in supporting the Houthis with material capabilities.”
Saudi Arabia accused its rival Iran of arming Houthi rebels in Yemen with ballistic missiles.
Houthi rebels have increased missile attacks against Saudi Arabia in recent months.
THe country tested a new alarm system earlier this month for Riyadh and the country’s Eastern Province, in a sign of growing concerns over the ongoing conflict.
Saudi Arabia, along with allies including the United Arab Emirates, intervened militarily in Yemen in 2015 in a bid to force out the rebels and restore what they see as the legitimate government.
The conflict in Yemen has left nearly 10,000 people dead and more than 55,000 wounded.
Millions of Yemeni citizens are on the verge of famine, and over 2,200 people have died from cholera.
