Video: Woman pays Dh1,800 water bill with only coins

A woman in Deltona, Florida, irked over escalating water bills, paid the utility company nearly $500 in pennies. Dana McCool stated that the 'peaceful protest' was a result of enormous water consumption bills that she had started getting since 2016.

McCool also uploaded a video on Facebook showing her carrying several bags filled with pennies to Deltona Water's customer service office. According to reports in WFTV, McCool started facing problems from 2016 after she received several bills as high as $700 for about six months, way above the average costs of around $40.

However, Deltona Water reimbursed McCool for nearly $1000 after it was found there was a leak in her irrigation system but she still had to pay $493 for back pay and other fees. McCool revealed that the pennies took over two hours to be counted.

Officials informed that if customers are facing high water bills, they should check for leaks with the utility company.

McCool said, "I just wanted to make a statement. I want other people who have this bill to come forward too. This is a far-reaching issue." Several other local residents have also complained about high water bills over the past few months.
