For The First Time In Pakistan’s History, A Transgender Newscaster Appears On TV
Only recently Pakistan's Senate approved a bill in favour of protecting the transgender community and empowering them to choose their own identity.
Following that, for the first time ever in Pakistan's history, a transgender person has been appointed as a newscaster. Though details about the news channel that employs her remain unknown, it's indeed a big step for Pakistan as it strives for an all-inclusive community.
The news was shared by Shiraz Hassan, a senior journalist associated with BBC, on Twitter. His tweet features a photo of Maavia Malik with the caption that reads: "Pakistan's first news caster on screen now - Maavia Malik."

Last year, a court also ruled that transgenders will be counted in the nation's census for the first time.
