Filipino Worker Dies After Fall in Saudi Gold Mine

A Filipino miner was killed while another one was injured during a rock fall in a gold mine in Saudi Arabia Friday evening.

According to sources, the incident took place at at Jabl Manjum gold mine in Mahd Al-Dahab, a leading gold mining area in the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in the Saudi Arabia’s Province of Al-Madinah. 

Sources added that the body of the deceased worker was kept at Mahd Al-Dahab Hospital morgue while the injured worker was receiving medical attention at the same hospital and is out of danger.

A large number of Filipinos work in the gold mines in Mahd Al-Dahab in Madinah province, Saudi Gazette reports.

Mahd Al-Dahab is one of the oldest gold mining sites in the Kingdom. Ma’aden Gold and Base Metals Company (MGBM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ma’aden, undertakes mining operations in the region.

The company operates six gold mines in Saudi Arabia. It is also developing a new gold mine in the Central Arabian Gold Region (CAGR) and is carrying out extensive explorations for gold and base metal deposits in several parts of the country.
