MadeForEachOther: Boy adopts Kitten with Heterochromia
Madden is a 7-year-old boy who struggles with bullying. His mother said kids at school tease him about his different colored eyes, and a scar left from his cleft lip surgery. When the family found a rescue kitten online with the exact same conditions, they knew it would become part of the family.
The family took a spontaneous road trip from Oklahoma to Minnesota to adopt the kitten. Its name is Moon.
Madden's mother, Christina Humphreys, said in a blog post on Love What Matters,
Moon, the kitty, and Madden are the perfect companions for each other. In a word full of bullies and hateful words, we will choose to chase love.
Madden and Moon both have complete heterochromia iridium, which is where the eyes are two completely different colors. The pair's mismatched eyes are very rare, affecting less than 1 percent of the population, but they're a perfect match for each other. The eyes combined with the cleft lip make the coincidence astonishing.
Humphreys said it was fate.
I’m stunned at how this all played out. It sounds silly, but fate willed these two together. There’s no other explanation. This kitty was so far away from us. I’m amazed that we found out about him.
She said Moon is a great companion and a great way to teach Madden that it's okay to be different.
I’m so thankful Madden has Moon. Not only so that both he and the kitty have a relatable and sweet companion, but also, I hope Moon helps Madden realize that being born unique in an incredible thing; that he is magic.
