Up to 300 milligrams (mg) of caffeine a day is considered safe for most healthy adults. Approximately, a cup of coffee contains 95-100 milligrams of caffeine. So, that's roughly the amount of caffeine in four cups of brewed coffee.

It should be avoided by hypertension patients as it causes anxiety, further leading to high blood pressure. Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) should also avoid coffee as it may irritate the gut lining."
