Imported catfish
It can grow big so fish farmers feed them with hormones, especially in Asia. That is why it is dangerous .Always buy wild caught catfish .
Mackerel
This fish is full of mercury, a heavy metal that can cause serious diseases .
If you love eating this fish buy Atlantic variety because they contain low levels of the toxin.
Tuna
Tuna is my favorite and the favorite for millions of people but this fish is packed with mercury, especially the blackfin and bluefin variety.
Wild tuna is very healthy but too expensive and rare.
Since almost all tuna fish comes form farms and is fed with hormones and antibiotics try to avoid eating this delicious fish .
Tilapia
Tilapia is one of the most dangerous fish because is full of harmful fats and lard.It raises the cholesterol levels and make you more sensitive to allergens.
Eel
Eels are full of fats ,industrial and farm waste.
The American eel contains the highest level of intoxication.
The European variety is rich in mercury.
Pangasius
Most of the pangasius fish comes from the Mekong river in Vietnam,the most polluted rivers in the world. Pangasius fillets are full with orpolyphosphates and nitrofurazone.
Tilefish
Tilefish contains the highest levels of mercury from any fish and significantly raises the risk of food poisoning when ingested.
Sea bass
Sea bass contains a high level of mercury an since it looks similar to pangasius, when you order sea bass fillet, you can get much cheaper fish.
Dollarfish
The dollarfish contains gempylotoxin that causes indigestion.
If you love eating this fish try grilling or frying it .On this way you will reduce the levels of the toxin.
TIP: How to choose fresh fish?
- Look on the the shiny scales and clear eyes
- take a piece in your hands and check the tail – if the fish is spoiled, the tail will be lowered.
- Gray grills and dry fins means that the fish is bad
- if you buy live fish, always pick the fish close to the bottom.
