To Ace The Role Of Khilji In ’Padmaavat’, Ranveer Singh Locked Himself In A Room For 21 Days!
It’s a norm, everytime Ranveer Singh’s new film hits the theatre, what follows next is a bevy of people pouring praises and accolades on him from every nook and corner. It’s no different for Padmaavat. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali is being praised for his direction extraordinaire, it’s Ranveer’s Alauddin Khilji, who is being talked about the most.
According to several critics and audience reviews, despite playing a negative character Ranveer has managed to connect with the people at large purely because of his super-convincing acting and ferocious aura.
Now, to achieve what he did was no easy feat. He revealed that to get into the skin of Khilji he went to a ‘dark place’ emotionally. Talking about the same with Indian Express, he said,
“I took 21 days and locked myself up in my Goregaon house. I was completely isolated”.
Khilji was known for taking a special liking toward Queen Padmini, to the extent of obsession. He further revealed:
“I kind of isolated myself, marinated into the character because I can’t relate to Alaudin Khilji, I can’t relate to that level of manipulativeness, greed and ambition. I had to tap into dark experiences but his world view is not something I can relate to also.”
However, he says that the credit purely goes to Bhansali and his ingenious direction.
