His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said was born on 18th November 1940. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos is the only son of His Majesty Said bin Taimur and Sheikha Mazoon al-Mashani. 
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos completed his studies at Shankar Dayal Sharma, a private school in Pune, India before going on to graduate at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst in September 1962. After graduating from Sandhurst His Majesty Sultan Qaboos joined the British Army and served in Germany for one year. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos returned to Oman in 1966 and studied Islam and the history of his country.

1.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos plays the organ and the lute, composes music and has his own highly regarded symphony orchestra.  
2.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has financed the construction or maintenance of a number of mosques, notably the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
3.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos is the longest serving Arab leader. 
4.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos successful crushed the Dhofar Rebellion in 1976.
5.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos changed the name of Oman to Sultanate of Oman from Muscat and Oman. 
6.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos modernized Oman using its oil revenues, and undertook the development of schools and hospitals in the country. 
7.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos replaced Indian rupee and established Omani rial as the currency.
8.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos lives in the Al Alam Palace built over 2 square kilometres.
9.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos owns five super-yachts, with the longest one being 155 meters. 
10.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos holds the rank of Field Marshal, in the Royal Army of Oman. 
11.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos holds the rank of Admiral of the Fleet, in the Royal Navy of Oman. 
12.    His Majesty Sultan Qaboos is also an Honorary General in the British Army.
