One of the major attractions for tourists in Oman are its caves full of history that has the mystery element in it. Below are certain caves which add the fine touch to the scenic beauty of the Sultanate in an enchanting manner:

Al Hoota Cave

Being one of the most renowned caves in Oman, this cave was spotted by the Al Hamra local residents and from Muscat it is about a two-hour drive to reach. The cave has  various attractions in the form of a lake with a depth of 5 kilometres, underground valleys and water springs. The visitors are allowed to go near a distance of 860 metres only. It is located south to the Jebel Akhdar mountain.  There have been certain rumors that the cave extends to the  wilayat Nizwa Tanuf Valley. Different kinds of blind fish viz. with and without eyes are found in the lake.

 

Teeq Cave and Tawi Ateer Sinkhole

If you visit the beautiful Salah, just go south by exploring his location called Tawi Ateer (Bird Well)which is one of the noted largest sinkholes in the world. If you go further, you would reach the Teeq cave at the sinkhole top.  There are various narrow paths, waterfalls, entrances and panoramic views for tourists to entertain themselves.  This cave adds to the country’s natural biodiversity and to its historical and geographical richness. The cave was discovered in 1997 by the Sultan Qaboos University and a team of slovenian explorers.

Al Kittan Cave

This cave is situated at the Oman’s A’Dhahirah Governorate in a place called wilayat Ibri. From Ibri , it is 8 Kms away as far as the distance is concerned.  Tourists would be in awe of the high luminosity of the cave which resembles that of marble and it is solely due to this it was called “the marble cave”.   There are beautiful rock engravings and geological formations housed by this cave. For your information, this cave is not accessible unless you are assisted by an experienced guide.

Majlis Al Jin Cave

If you wish to visit the world’s largest underground cave, this is the cave you are about to visit. The cave is situated on the Quriyat region’s eastern side close to the Fins. The dome shaped ceiling of this large cave has a height of 120 metres.

Jarnan Cave

Located about 120 kilometres from Muscat, this enchanting cave is situated in the Al Dakhiliyah region called Izki . The local residents here would be telling you about the fables and stories about mysteries and Jin in the cave.

Al Marnif Cave

If you travel from Salalah about 40 kilometres  and move to Shatti Al Mughsayl, you could visit this cave along with views of the ocean, wonderful natural blow-holes. Being one of the most attractive regions in Dhofar, this region is friendly to the visitors  with walkways, bridges, protective fence and seating areas.
